Crochet Experiments

One of my obsessions at the moment is crochet. I'm currently crocheting a MASSIVE blanket and I'm keen and curious about what else I can do with my newly-discovered skill.

So, I had a go at amigurumi and made this little egg by following this video on YouTube.

I was quite impressed with it for a first attempt. I had the learn how to do the magic ring first, which is a bit confusing to begin with but I soon got the hang of it.

Then, I started to wonder what else I could crochet with, so I collected some materials from around the house and experimented!

I love the way the paper string looks. It was difficult to get the tension right, but I think it would be worth doing some more crochet with this. I'd like to try making some baskets with this.

The garden twine didn't work too well, but I think this might be because my hook was too small. The biggest hook I have at the moment is a 5.5mm, and it was quite tough to work with.

The ribbon didn't work well at all. Again, I think it would be good to try with a much bigger hook. I'd also like to try with a different type of ribbon as this one ripped really easily.

I also really loved the embroidery thread. I used stranded cotton, but I didn't separate the threads, so this is 6 threads on a 3mm hook. It would be fun to try fewer strands on a smaller hook - it makes me want to try crochet jewellery!
